About Us
The
Pequot Lakes Community Library was conceived by a group of local residents
and, after much work, opened on July 2, 2004. We are a department of
the City of Pequot Lakes and they provide our space. We do, however,
raise our entire budget.
The library, totally operated by volunteers, is open 31 hours a week. An average of four volunteers per day keep the library in tip-top shape: there are approximately 17,800 materials in the collection, an average of 45 patrons per day, and a yearly budget of $15,000, of which 1/3 goes for the purchase of new materials. Continued donations of materials by the community are crucial to our success.
Fundraising
Our
main fundraising efforts consist of two book sales per year (winter
and July 4th weekend) and a Silent Basket Auction, held on the third
Saturday of October each year, plus our Birthday Letter Fundraiser.
From time to time, we also hold an Author's Tea.
The Library Board
The Library Board consists of seven members, a majority of whom live in Pequot Lakes. They meet at 6:30 PM on the third Tuesday of each month (except December - second Tuesday - and no meeting in February). Anyone is welcome to attend.
